Ben Franklin Demonstration Gardens
MGCC has three demonstration gardens at the Ben Franklin school: perennial, herb, and vegetable. The gardens are always in need of volunteers for seasonal work including planning, preparing, and maintaining the gardens. Thursday work sessions run from April through September from 9:00 a.m. to noon (barring inclement weather). No need to let the coordinator know – just show up with your gloves, favorite hand tools, and a bag to take home the weeds.!
Saturday work sessions in the Ben Franklin Demo Gardens are back! For MGVs who need weekend hours, we will be in the garden from 9-12 on the second Saturday of every month beginning in May 2024: 5/11, 6/8, 7/13, 8/10, 9/14, 10/12. If you would like to work on one or more of these dates, you must let Hedy Westra know (hedywestra@ameritech.net) a few days in advance. A senior MGV will be there if we know people are coming. If we don’t hear from anyone, we’ll be home pulling our own weeds.
From time to time, volunteers are also needed to present public demonstrations. Watch for those opportunities in News You Can Use. All work sessions and other volunteer opportunities will be posted in the volunteer event calendar.
The gardens are located behind Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. 1905 Spring Rd, Cleveland 44109.
